Costing per lot
What a lot, a litre of beer and a single keg or bottle cost you. From ingredient prices, tank additions, packaging and a per-batch flat fee.
Costing shows the direct costs of each lot of beer. It is calculated on its own from the ingredients you actually weighed into the batch and the prices of the lots they came from. All amounts exclude VAT.
What is included
- Ingredients weighed into each batch, at the price of the specific ingredient lot.
- Tank additions: dry hops, finings, bought yeast.
- Packaging at filling, deducted from stock by the package's bill of materials.
- The per-batch flat fee for energy and labour, if you set one.
Not included: kegs (they are assets and are not consumed), water and home-propagated yeast. Prices in a foreign currency are converted at the CNB rate on the lot's receipt date.
Cost per litre and losses
Until the tank is closed, the cost is shown provisionally per litre of wort. Once it is closed, it is recalculated per litre packaged and comes out higher by the losses. The losses between wort and packaging are therefore included in the cost per litre.
Cost per unit adds up the beer by the volume actually packaged and the packaging material for one unit.
Step by step
- Make sure your ingredient lots have purchase prices. You add them on the supplier card.
- On the Costing page, enter a Per-batch flat fee and the day it applies from. Older batches keep the fee that applied when they were brewed.
- On the Lots tab, click a lot number. You see the batches by ingredient, tank additions, packaging and the cost per litre and per unit.
Labels next to the figures
- estimate: the ingredient lot has no price, so the last known price of that ingredient was used.
- old price: the estimate is based on a price older than a year.
- no price: the item has neither a price nor an estimate, so the costing is incomplete.
Recipe cost estimate
The Recipes tab shows what a batch will cost by the latest recipe version. It uses the last known ingredient prices and today's flat fee, without packaging. What the batch actually cost is shown by the lot costing after brewing.
Who can see costing
Purchase prices are sensitive. Costing is visible to the brewer and the owner, not to operators.
