Brew day step by step

Operators tick off the recipe steps on the phone, see the rest countdown, record temperatures and weights, and get an alert when a rest ends.

On brew day, the phone guides the operator through the recipe, step by step, recording actual times. The procedure is written in the recipe, see Recipes, versions and scaling to batch volume.

Getting started

  1. On the Today screen, find Brewing today and tap the batch.
  2. Tap Start brewing. The start is recorded and the first step begins.

For a brew day in progress, Today shows the current step.

During a step

  • At the top you see Step X of Y and the rest countdown. Once time is up, it shows how far you are over time.
  • The countdown runs from the recorded start of the step, so it stays right even if the phone is locked or lent.
  • Enter the temperature in Measured temperature. Where the recipe has a measuring point, also enter the Measured volume.
  • Write what actually happened in the Step note.
  • Finish a step with Done or Skip. A step closed by mistake comes back with Undo.

Materials for the step

Where something goes in, you see Materials for this step. The weight is pre-filled with the recipe's suggestion, scaled to the batch volume.

  1. Tap the QR icon and scan the lot label, or pick the lot from the list.
  2. Overwrite the suggestion with the weight from the scale and tap Record.

An expired lot can still be recorded; the app just warns you. If you scan a sack of a different material, it tells you.

Decoctions

At a decoction pull, the app says how many litres to pull and what to heat them to. At the return it shows the resulting mash temperature. It uses the malt weight and the recipe's mash ratio.

Alert at the end of a rest

At the bottom of the operator app, tap Turn on notifications. The phone then speaks up even when locked in your pocket. On iPhone this works only for the app added to the home screen.

When a rest ends, Rest is over arrives. If the step is not closed within five minutes, a reminder follows.

No signal, and the end of the day

Without signal, entries wait on the phone and send themselves later. After the last step you see The brew day is done. The wort volume and the transfer into a tank are recorded on the batch page.
